Description

This headstone, dating from the 17th century, is located approximately 15 meters south of the end of the south aisle of St Mary's Church on High Street in Brading. It features outstanding Rococo carving, including a carved head with drapery that reveals an angel opening a coffin to show a cherub awakening, accompanied by flanking putto and an angel blowing a trumpet. The sides are adorned with cornucopiae, and there is a shell-shaped inscription panel edged with drops of wheat ears. The inscription was illegible at the time of the survey.
