Description
The Church of St Helen, located on Priory Road, was originally built in 1717 but was rebuilt in 1829, with the chancel added in 1862. The church features a crenellated west tower that shares design elements with St Thomas' Church on St Thomas' Street in Ryde. It is constructed from stone rubble with casticated brick quoins and has pointed windows with wooden Y tracery. The church includes transepts but lacks aisles. Inside, there is a memorial tablet dedicated to Edward Grose, who died in 1815, featuring an inscription flanked by bundled trophies by W Pistall from New Road, London. There is also a similar tablet for Sir Nash Grose, who died in 1814, which includes lictor's fasces flanking the inscription, although this one is unsigned.
