Description
122 and 123 High Street is a townhouse with a shop, built in the early 19th century. It was most likely constructed as a single building, divided by the mid-19th century, and later recombined by the mid-20th century. The shopfront was updated in the early 21st century.
The first and second floors of the front elevation facing the High Street are covered in painted brick, while the pitched roof over the front range is finished with slate. The upper part of the east gable return is rendered.
The building has a long rectangular shape, oriented south to north, with a narrow front elevation facing south onto the High Street. The front range has three storeys plus an attic. The ground floor is entirely occupied by a shopfront that was replaced in 2009. On the first floor, there are two curved oriel windows, each featuring curved sashes: a six-over-six central sash flanked by four-over-four sashes. The sashes are separated by moulded strips, with a deep plain apron below and a plain frieze with a dentil cornice above. The second floor contains three eight-over-eight sashes with block cills. Above these windows is a timber fascia. The front range is topped by a pitched roof covered in slates, which features two dormers halfway down the front slope. These dormers have flat roofs and each contains a six-pane window on the front face.
