Description

The Bugle Hotel is an early 19th-century building on the High Street. The facade is constructed of grey headers with rubbed brick dressings, applied to an earlier building. It has a steep-pitched hipped roof covered in old tiles, and a projecting red brick eaves cornice with header dentils. The building is three storeys high and has six windows, recessed and containing sash windows; glazing bars are present only on the second floor. The windows are topped with flat, rubbed brick arches and have block sills. The central recessed entrance has six fielded panels with panelled reveals. A doorcase features reeded Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. Edwardian shop fronts occupy the ground floor on either side, with the exception of one surviving window. The interior has been modernised. Historically, the Parliamentary Commissioners were lodged here during the negotiation of the Treaty of Newport. The building forms a group with numbers 114 to 117.
