Description

The remains of Old Quarr Abbey at Quarr Abbey Farm are from a Cistercian foundation established in 1131, though little remains of the original structure. The farmhouse, likely built in the early 19th century, is two stories high and constructed from older stones. It features lancet windows arranged in groups of three beneath stepped gables. The ground floor has three lights with stone mullions in the outer bays, while the center is slightly recessed and includes a corbelled parapet and a double chamfered pointed arch doorway. The stepped gables extend to the sides and rear, with the rear gable being significantly taller, topped with a cornice and pierced by a lancet.

To the north of the farmhouse, there is an archway that connects it to the barn, which was originally the cellarian and may relate to the west front of the church. The barn represents the west range of the cloisters, featuring an entrance bay to the north with a group of genuine 13th-century lancets that have been reset. Remains of the north range can be found to the east and west, including part of the kitchen entrance and remnants of its interior, such as a heavily chamfered hatch between the kitchen and the south end of the refectory.

From the refectory, one shafted joint of the doorway and one wall shaft, likely part of blank arcading, still survive, along with a cupboard recess next to the door. Aside from this group, little else remains: to the north, there is a section of wall and an arch with a continuous chamfer, possibly part of the Abbot's lodging or a woodhouse. To the east, a fragment of wall and part of a fireplace with a square head and panelled sides from the 14th century can be seen, along with a round-headed north window, which was part of the infirmary chapel.
