Description

Numbers 17-24 and 26-32 Park Crescent comprise a terrace of houses built in stages from 1849, designed by Amon Henry Wilds. They form the curved, three-storey range on Park Crescent. Numbers 24 and 26 are later additions, dating from 1983, built to replace houses destroyed by bombing in 1942, and they adhere to the original terrace’s design, included for group value. The construction is stucco, with slate roofs.

The exterior features three stories over a basement, with three windows per house. The standard design includes an entrance bay set slightly back from the adjacent house, with a flat-arched entrance featuring a moulded architrave, cornice, overlight, and a panelled door of original design. Quoins define the boundary between the entrance bay and the main facade. All windows are flat-arched, with moulded architraves, and the central window on the first floor is often blank. The sash windows are generally of original design, with 4/4 panes on the ground and first floors, and 2/2 panes on the second floor. Console brackets support the eaves, which incorporate a frieze of wreaths; deep eaves are present above, and both ridge and front stacks are visible. Cast-iron railings with spearhead finials front the area.

The garden front exhibits a main block of three stories, where the cornice and eaves transition into a three-story "tower" resembling those on Numbers 1-16 and 33-48. This tower features bracketed eaves, a wreathed cornice, and pedimented gables.

Notable variations on individual houses include Numbers 17-18, 20, 23, 27-28, and 32, which lack blocked central first-floor windows. Number 19 has a partially blocked central window on the second floor. Number 21 has glazed upper panels on its front door. Number 22 incorporates an oval window into its central first-floor window. Number 29 features glazed upper panels on its door, and its central first-floor window has been altered. The interiors have not been inspected.
