Description
Kingston Bridge, built between 1825 and 1828 by Edward Lapidge, is a notable structure located in Kingston-upon-Thames. It was opened by the Duchess of Clarence, who later became Queen Adelaide. The bridge is constructed from Portland stone and features five rusticated arches, with the central arch adorned with an armorial keystone. It has a bold cornice and a balustraded parapet. The semi-circular cutwaters support flat panelled piers that are topped with small balcony projections that extend forward from the balustrade. The bridge was widened in 1914, and one original cast iron lamp standard remains in place. Part of the bridge is situated in the Borough of Richmond-on-Thames.
