Description
4 Eden Street is a 17th-century timber-framed building that was refronted in the early to mid-19th century. It has three storeys and is two bays wide. The ground floor features a modern shop front, while the upper floors are faced with painted brick. The first-floor windows are set in elliptical-arched recesses that are connected by a springing band. The rear of the building, which faces Bath Passage, has a gabled design with a stucco finish that imitates ashlar joints.
Inside, the original 17th-century layout remains intact on the first and second floors, with a large chimney stack dividing the front and back rooms. Some of the ceiling beams on the first floor have cyma stop chamfers. The front third of the roof was rebuilt in the 19th century, but the rest dates back to the 17th century and features raking queen struts and butt purlins. The chimney stack is made of brick and has grouped rectangular flues.
