Description
The University of London Boathouse, built in 1936 by Thompson and Walford, is a notable structure featuring a reinforced concrete frame and flat concrete roofs, with the shuttering clearly visible on the south elevation. It is a single-storey building with first and second floors above. The boathouse has Crittall metal frame windows, except in the bar, lounge, and upper floor flat, where they have been replaced with plastic or timber.
At the lower level, there are ten entrances to the boathouse, each fitted with rolling shutter doors, and it includes an eight-oar rowing tank. Above this, there is a single-storey lounge and bar that features a tubular steel rail to the roof. The rear and side of the building contain a gym, changing rooms, and offices, which also have a simple tubular steel rail to the roof. A paved terrace sits over the boathouses, equipped with a tubular steel rail, and there is an upper floor apartment. Access is provided by an external stair on the south elevation and from the north end of the terrace to the ground floor.
