Description
Pinner Court comprises two blocks of 18 private flats, designed as a mirrored pair to create a symmetrical appearance. The building dates to the inter-war period and is constructed of rendered brick with bell-cast, green-tiled hipped roofs and tall stacks. It is three storeys high. Each block is L-shaped, with curved corners to the front. Three front entrances, sheltered by bell-cast porches that serve six flats each, are visible on the front. At the rear are four servants’ entrances within projecting, two-storey loggias. The flats contain two or three bedrooms, with the largest located in the projecting front ranges. The south-facing facades are slightly irregular, featuring broader, curving windows for the living rooms and projecting balconies with round-arched openings and green-painted cast-iron railings for the flats on the upper storeys. All windows are metal with prominent horizontal panes, also painted green. The rear elevations, spanning fourteen bays, are more regular, maintaining the same horizontal fenestration pattern, also visible in the partially-glazed doors. Internally, some flats retain timber staircases leading to entrance halls, along with fireplaces, cornices and other details from the original period. The buildings were conceived as a small-scale development of flats in a colonial style, intended to appeal to a middle-class market seeking a lifestyle reminiscent of Hollywood. They are set within extensive grounds and contribute significantly to the townscape.
