Description
The Bay House is a building located on Church Lane in Pinner, likely dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It features a timber-frame construction and is two storeys high. The building has undergone extensive alterations and additions in the 19th century. The original structure includes a range facing south and a cross-wing to the west that projects at the rear, with later extensions filling the angle between them.
The symmetrical front of the house is a later addition but likely reflects the original layout. It is stuccoed and has wooden canted bay windows on either side of a projecting porch, with three windows above—sashes flanking a narrower casement. The façade includes quoins, a band between the floors, a cornice, and a parapet, topped with a slate roof. There is a ridge stack with four flues aligned with the entrance lobby. Internally, little of the timber framing is exposed. The roof of the main front features a tie-beam, queen-strut, and collar construction with butt purlins between the principal rafters. The rear wing on the left side, also from the late 16th or early 17th century, has a similar roof structure but uses through purlins. Later extensions are present in the angle.
