Description
Old Pye House is a building that likely dates back to the 15th century and is part of a larger structure that originally included a hall. It stands two storeys high but is open from the ground to the roof as it was originally designed. The south front features plain red brickwork from the 18th or early 19th century, and it has a slate roof. Inside, the walls are timber framed, with gable ends that include tie beams and upward curving braces. The hall has two storeys and consists of one and a half bays, with a nearly central tie beam that supports a plain kingpost featuring three upward curving struts out of four. The name "Old Pye House" comes from a temporary medieval court for travelling merchants at a local fair, known as "pied poudre."
