Description

Probably dating from the 16th century, Woodhall Farmhouse was altered externally in the early 19th century. It is a two-story stuccoed building. The front elevation has three cast-iron casement windows with small panes and neo-Tudor dripmoulds. An early 19th-century hipped slate roof tops the main section. To the left, and set back, is a further early 19th-century wing with two sash windows, also with dripmoulds. One first-floor window is blocked. A round-headed door with an ornamental fanlight is on the right side of this wing, and it has a hipped slate roof with bracketed eaves.

The right-hand ground-floor room contains a ceiling divided into four compartments by heavy beams with chamfered mouldings. There is a restored open hearth with an oak lintel and a 16th–17th century oak dado composed of two distinct types of panelling. A room behind this has original moulded bricks forming a four-centre-headed hearth. The staircase and other rooms are of a simpler design. The early 19th-century wing has a plain interior. The farmhouse was held on joint lease by J C Loudon, the architect, circa 1806-circa 1809.
