Description
The Bellot Memorial, built in 1853, is located on the north side of Romney Road in Greenwich. It features three steps made of polished shaped granite that rest on a sloped, square stone plinth. Above the steps is a low, square shaft with the name "BELLOT" incised on the north side. An obelisk rises above this shaft. On the south face of the shaft, there is an attached copper plate with the inscription: "To the intrepid young Bellot of the French Navy who, in the endeavour to rescue Franklin, shared the fate and the glory of that illustrious navigator. From his British admirers 1853."
