Description
The east wall of Broomfield Park, including an attached garden house and stable block, is a significant structure likely built around the mid-16th century. The wall is made of red brick, primarily using English bond, and features an alternating brick cornice and high sloped coping. It has a plinth and is ramped and stepped up to a high gateway, which has a Tudor arch made of chamfered brick and is recessed under a hoodmould, topped with a gable. Inside the gate, there is a pedimented shelter that may have been added in the 18th century. To the north of the gateway, against the inside of the wall, is an 18th-century gazebo or garden house that has a dentilled and mutuled cornice, an open front, and a panelled interior. To the south of the main gateway, there are smaller openings with Tudor arches. The stable block, which is attached and made of brick, is two storeys high and dates from the early 18th century, although it has been altered.
