Description
The Church of St John was built in 1846 by Sir George Gilbert Scott and W B Moffat. An extension to the north aisle was added by Scott in 1859, and the south aisle was completed in 1900 by M S Breakspear. Further extensions were made in 1935 by G P Pratt. The church is constructed of flint with stone dressings in the Early English style. It features a four-bay nave and two aisles, all topped with individual gabled tiled roofs. The belfry is shingled and has a patterned tiled roof. Inside, the nave roof is supported by king post trusses, and the nave piers have an unusual design.
