Description
Hayland Midcot is an irregular terrace of houses located at Nos 152 to 156, built in 1921, with No 154 completed in 1928. The architect was Ernest George Trobridge. The houses are timber framed with elm boarding, featuring some brick, plaster infill, and shingles, topped with a thatched roof. They are two storeys high, including a roof storey, and have irregular window arrangements with wooden mullions. Nos 152 and 154 have lead trims, while all windows feature leaded lights with diamond panes, and some include stained glass roundels. No 156 has floral patterns in its stained glass. The terrace has two chimney stacks, and the rear elevation is of equal interest, with the ground floor of Midcot being fully glazed. The interiors have survived, showcasing panelled walls and patterned brick fireplaces. Both Hayland and later Midcot were inhabited by the architect Ernest George Trobridge, who lived from 1884 to 1942 and was noted for his architectural contributions.
