Description
The terrace houses at 35-46 York Terrace West, now converted to flats, were built around 1824-26 by John Nash as part of his development of Regent’s Park. They are a unified group of buildings of stucco construction with slate roofs. The design follows a tripartite Graeco-Roman style, projecting forward from numbers 34 and 47. Entrances are located to the rear. The houses are three stories high, with bowed fronts that are three windows wide, flanked by dormered mansards. A central three-story section with a pedimented attic and three windows is prominent. The ground floor is channelled, featuring square-headed windows. The central section has first and second floor windows set back behind an open Corinthian columned loggia. Single-window bays are set back on each side of the main block. A cornice sits above the ground floor, with a balustraded parapet in front of the first-floor windows and loggia. Incised decoration is present on the bowed fronts. An entablature and balustraded parapet top the second floor.
