Description

This is a three-window terraced town house, now converted into flats, located at 47 York Terrace West, London. It is a facsimile rebuild dating to circa 1824-26, created by John Nash as part of his development of the Regent's Park Crown Estate. The building is constructed of stucco with a slate roof. It is set back within a balanced composition alongside numbers 34 to 46, though it presents a distinctive facade and has its main entrance at the rear. The building is two storeys high with a dormered mansard roof. The ground floor windows have square heads and are set within architraves. The first-floor windows are semicircular arched and recessed for one order. There is a cornice over the ground floor and a crowning cornice with a parapet. The first-floor windows are accompanied by stone balconettes, featuring cast iron window guards; the stonework of the balconettes is designed to resemble the moulding of the ground floor windows.
