Description
The Church of St Barnabas is a Grade I listed church located on St Barnabas Street in the City of Westminster. It was built between 1847 and 1850 by Cundy Junior, with assistance from Butterfield. The church features ragstone ashlar dressings and a slate pitched roof that extends to the eaves. It is designed in the Early English Gothic style, comprising a five-bay nave with lean-to aisles, a clerestory, and a lower chancel. There are entrances on the west and south sides, and a five-stage tower at the northwest corner topped with a broach spire and dripping eaves. The tower includes triple bell louvres and one lucarne on each face. Inside, the church reportedly contains a rood and rood screen created by Bodley and Garner, Comper decoration in the Lady Chapel from around 1900, and stained glass. The church is part of a unified composition that includes a parsonage and school.
