Description

This is a terrace of eight houses, numbered 8 to 16, located on the south side of Montpelier Square in the City of Westminster. The houses date to around 1830 and are constructed of stucco, with slate mansard roofs to numbers 10 and 11. The remaining roofs are not visible.

The terrace is three storeys high, with an attic and basement. The end pairs of houses have an extra storey and feature prominent giant Ionic pilasters on the first and second floors. Each house has two windows across the facade. The entrances are square-headed and have a variety of fanlights. The windows are square-headed, retaining their original glazing bars, although some ground floor windows were altered around 1900. A continuous cast iron balcony runs along the first floor. A stucco cornice sits above the second floor, with a smaller cornice above the attic. The terrace is finished with a parapet and cast iron area railings, leading to steps providing access to the entrances. The houses are part of a larger group forming Montpelier Square.
