Description

A terrace of six houses, numbered 1 to 7, located on the north side of Rutland Gate in the City of Westminster, built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco, with a visible roof absent from the description. They form a grand, almost symmetrical block, with the end houses set forward and featuring Corinthian pilasters on the first and second floors. The buildings are three storeys high, plus an attic and basement. Each house has three windows across the facade. The ground floor is channelled with stucco, and the windows are arched within recessed surrounds. Arched entrances are located within projecting Doric porches - the entrance to number 7 is located within a smaller, enclosed porch on the right-hand return. A continuous cast iron balcony runs across the first floor. The first-floor windows have square heads, with pediments above some of the central bays. Second-floor windows have segmental heads and stucco architraves. The attic windows are arched. A very rich cornice sits above the second floor, with a smaller cornice above the attic and a balustraded parapet completing the facade. The right-hand return features similar detailing. Cast iron area railings are present, possibly renewed.
