Description
This is a grand terrace of houses located on the north side of Warwick Square, in the City of Westminster. The terrace was built in the mid-19th century as part of the planned layout of the square, dating from 1842 to 1843. The buildings are constructed of stucco and have low slate mansard roofs.
The terrace presents a symmetrical appearance. It rises four storeys above a basement, however, the central houses have five full storeys. Each house is originally two windows wide, with No. 67 having six bays treated as two pairs of three bays. The central and end houses subtly project forward, featuring rusticated quoins. Doric porches are present at most properties, with Nos. 79 and 80 being the exceptions. A continuous balustraded balcony runs along the first floor. The windows have square heads, with architraves above the ground floor, cornices to the first floor, and pediments above the first floor of the projecting sections. The windows are generally sash windows with glazing bars, although some first-floor windows have French casements. A modillion cornice runs along the building’s top, and a balustraded parapet survives on Nos. 75, 76, 78, and 80. The terrace forms an integral part of the overall planned layout of Warwick Square.
