Description
The Church of St Matthew is a church built between 1849 and 1851 by Sir George Gilbert Scott, located on Great Peter Street in the City of Westminster. It is designed in the 13th century Gothic style, constructed from ragstone with ashlar dressings. The church features a massive and imposing south tower, which serves as the main entrance and is supported by angle buttresses. The tower was originally intended to be topped with a spire. The interior, which was gutted by fire in 1982, had aisles flanking the nave and included fine fittings. Restoration of the interior and fabric took place in 1984.
