Description
This is a terrace of houses located at 12a and 14 to 18 Devonshire Street, built in 1912 by Horace Field, Simmonds, and Faulkner. The houses are constructed from Portland stone and feature four storeys, a basement, and dormers, with the roof not visible. The two central houses have four windows each, while the others have three. The design is symmetrical, with the end three bays on each side slightly projecting and featuring pediments above the second floor. The ground floor has channelling, steps leading to the entrances, and round-headed doorways, with square doorways at the pavilions. The doors are panelled, except for the central door which is made of wrought iron. The first and second storeys are slightly recessed and include four two-storey projecting concave-sided bay windows that connect the ground and third floors. The windows are square-headed, with architraves, almost flush frames, and glazing bars, and the central first-floor pavilion windows have pediments. There is a central cartouche on the second floor, and the third-floor windows do not have architraves. The building features a cornice and a balustraded parapet, with square-headed dormers and prominent stone corniced chimneys on the party walls. Wrought-iron railings complete the facade.
