Description
No. 32 Sackville Street is a terrace house built around 1732, with alterations made in the late 18th century. The building is constructed of brown brick and topped with a slate roof. It stands four storeys high and features four windows across its facade. To the right, there is a semicircular arched doorway from the late 18th century, which includes a patterned fanlight and a panelled door flanked by sidelights. The windows are recessed sashes without glazing bars, set beneath flat gauged arches. A moulded cornice runs above the second floor, leading to a parapet with coping.
Inside, the house retains late 18th-century decoration reminiscent of the style of Robert Adam, particularly in the hall, which features pilasters and segmental arches. The tympana are adorned with relief medallions in an ancient style, and there is a delicate cornice with fluting and rams' heads in the frieze. The staircase is a simple open string design. Similar elegant decorative elements are found in the ceiling and doorcases of the otherwise altered and subdivided first-floor rooms.
