Description

St Barnabas Church Hall, originally known as The Shrubbery, dates from the earlier 19th century. It is a symmetrical building designed with two storeys and five bays. The building is constructed of stucco. The central part of the plan is segmental, featuring a Doric porch and a triplet of windows on the first floor above. Flanking this are recessed two-window-wide bays. The end bays project forward, incorporating tripartite windows framed by a plinth and Didyma-type Ionic giant pilasters that feature recessed panels. A fretted stone balcony, supported by consoles, is located beneath the first-floor windows. All windows have architraves, and the first-floor windows have cornices. The building is topped with a crowning entablature and a blocking course.
