Description
Furzedown Lodge is a single-storey, freestanding building dating to approximately 1850 or 1862-67, originally serving as the lodge to Furzedown House and farm. The building has three bays facing north and two bays facing west. It is constructed of yellow brick with gauged yellow brick arches, stone dressings, and a hipped slate roof.
The north elevation features a prominent square brick porch with round-headed arches set on stone colonettes on three sides, the openings recessed within concentric brick arches. The porch is topped by a modillion cornice and a balustraded parapet. Sash windows with diamond and verged glazing bars flank the porch, recessed into chamfered surrounds with gauged flat arches. The west elevation has a prominent canted bow window in the main bay, mirroring the detailing of the north elevation windows and porch cornice and parapet. A second recessed bay contains a single, similar window. A deep stucco coving sculpted with vineleaf relief rises to the eaves cornice, breaking back around the recessed bay. Tall brick stacks feature bold, bracketed cornices.
