Description

The Sandys Row Synagogue, originally a French Protestant Church, was opened in 1766 and subsequently altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick and exhibits a symmetrical facade of three storeys. It features three main bays, with a central semicircular-headed entrance. The sashed windows are semicircular-headed in triplets to the outer bays. A parapet tops the facade.

The interior retains a 18th-century gallery supported by Doric columns and featuring a triglyph frieze with guttae. Arched sashed windows with retaining glazing bars are located at gallery level. Further interior details include a modillion cornice and a coved ceiling. A later addition is an apse with flanking pilasters.
