Description
Nos 24 and 25 on Widegate Street, built around 1720, are three-storey houses with a basement and roof storey. The front elevation is made of painted brick and each house has two windows. The 19th-century shopfront windows feature gauged segmental arches, flush frames, and vertical double-hung sashes. The rear elevations have been altered, but there is an early tripartite casement window leading to a workshop.
The interior of No 25 is largely intact, with an entrance hall that includes a panelled dado and partition. The staircase features a panelled dado with moulded closed strings, turned balusters, and newels. The first-floor front room has a timber box cornice, ovolo moulded panelling, a barrel-backed china cupboard with sculpted shelves and an arched opening, and an early 19th-century chimneypiece. The rear room has a splayed chimney breast and similar features to the front room, but it is divided. The second-floor rooms have plain panelling with a moulded dado rail and architraves, along with early 19th-century chimneypieces. The interior of No 24 has a similar staircase, but the rooms were not seen.
