Description
The Gunmakers Company Hall and Proof House, located at 46 to 50 Commercial Road, was built in two phases. Number 46, constructed in 1872, is made of stock brick with stucco dressings and features two storeys with five windows. It has a central entrance adorned with a coat of arms above. Number 48 and 50 were built in 1826, designed by architect Robert Turner Cotton. Number 48 has brick bays marked by stone pilasters, an entablature, and a blocking course. It is a single storey with three bays, a central entrance, and one blank window on each side, along with a blank attic above the central bay. The doorway is framed with an architrave, consoles, and a segmental pediment. At the rear, there is a paved yard with proof sheds. Number 50 is built of yellow stock brick and features a stucco cornice and blocking course. It has three storeys with two recessed and arched windows on the ground floor.
