Description

Globe Wharf is a granary warehouse built around 1883 in Rotherhithe Street, Southwark. It is a building of group value. The warehouse is constructed of yellow stock brick with a decorative three-course dentil brick cornice along the parapet, topped with coping. It rises six storeys and has 20 bays facing the street, with a section of the south-east corner removed and a catslide roof over the first floor. Full-height, segmental-arched recesses contain eight rows of hatches, and there are segmental-headed casements with predominantly two lights and mullions. Drain pipes are set into the facade. The river front is composed of an outer five bays slightly separated from the inner four bays. A twentieth-century lattice jib crane is mounted on the second floor of the fifth bay from the west. The roof features three elevation housings, each with a pyramidal roof. Returns of 13 and 14 bays are also present. Internally, the warehouse has timber floors.
