Description

These are an early 19th-century pair of stucco-faced villas located on Streatham Hill. Each villa is two storeys high with a basement, and originally had two windows, although number 42 has had a bay added to the left. The roofs are low-pitched and slate-covered, with central chimneys and soffited eaves. A recess runs along the front of the building on the central axis. A band runs along the first-floor window sills. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The first-floor windows have Gothic-style window heads. The ground-floor windows are longer casements with transoms and Gothic interlacing bars above. There are four steps leading up to the prostyle Doric porches. The doors consist of six panels arranged 1, 2, 1, 2, with reeded quadrant pilasters, a cornice head, and a fanlight with interlacing bars. Number 40 retains its original handrails.
