Description
The walls, gates, gatepiers, and railings to the central garden were constructed around 1826, with the railings on the north side being replaced after 1944. They are made of cast iron set on a low stock brick wall topped with stone coping. The structure forms a rectangle of cast iron spear railings on a low brick and stone base, featuring urns and decorated column principals with scroll supports on the outside, along with curbing stones attached to the wall at regular intervals. There are seven cast iron gates, three on the east and west sides and one on the south, which have spear railings and lozenge panels at the base, along with cast iron gatepiers that include panels of lozenges and urn finials. The north side is included as the wall is original, although the railings there are of a simpler design. A plaque on the northernmost gate on the west side notes the date of the gates and railings and the developer, Joshua Flesher Hanson.
