Description

This is a terrace of twelve houses, numbered 1 to 13, located on Thurloe Street in London. The houses date from the mid-19th century and are three storeys high with a basement. They are constructed of stucco, with the ground floor rusticated (featuring a deliberately rough or textured appearance). The windows are sash windows with segmental heads (arched tops). Prominent Ionic columned porches adorn the front. A continuous iron balcony runs across the first floor. The window surrounds have eared architraves (projecting, flat sections of trim), and the windows sit on a continuous cill band. A bracketed cornice (decorative moulding at the top of the wall) is a further feature. The remains of an open balustrade (a low wall made of repeated balusters) are visible at No. 13. No. 1 projects slightly forward and features rusticated angle quoins (decorative cornerstones). The terrace is set behind area railings (low decorative fencing enclosing a paved area).
