Description
House, dating from the early 19th century. It is built of stucco over brick, with a Welsh slate gambrel roof and a brick stack on the left end. The house has a double-depth plan arranged over three storeys, with a basement and attic, and a two-window front. The basement has six-pane sashes set within a segmental arch. A six-panelled door, dating from the early 19th century and with a decorative fanlight, is set within a semi-circular arch to the right; a raised band links the semi-circular arches above the ground-floor windows, which have glazing bars. The first floor has twelve-pane sashes set in blind semi-circular arched recesses with raised impost courses, each with a bowed wrought-iron balcony. The upper floor has four-pane sashes set within flat arches. A tripartite sash window from the early 19th century is located at the rear. Internally, there are early 19th-century panelled shutters and window architraves. The ground and first floors feature enriched neo-classical and foliate plaster cornices and friezes. The front hall and stair hall have modillioned cornices, and the stair hall contains a fine early 19th-century open-well staircase with a wreathed mahogany handrail, stick balusters and turned newels. A classical marble fireplace with roundels is located on the first floor.
