Description

Nos 9, 10 and 11, Chelsea Embankment are a group of buildings dating from 1879, designed by R Norman Shaw. A plaque is affixed to No. 9. The Marquess of Ripon, who served as Viceroy of India, once resided here. The buildings are constructed of red brick and extend over five or six storeys, with attics and a basement. Each property is four windows wide. They are characterized by gables, narrow sash windows with cambered heads and keystones, and three-storey canted bay windows featuring iron balconies above. Recessed doorways are situated beneath the bay windows and are supported by Roman Doric pillars.
