Description

Peabody Yard consists of workshops built in 1865, designed by Henry Darbishire. The complex features twelve workshops arranged in symmetrical blocks of four. Workshops numbered 1 to 4 are adjacent to Peabody House, while numbers 5 to 12 form a terrace opposite. The buildings are constructed from stock brick and topped with slate hipped roofs. Each block is two storeys high, with two workshops on each floor. Each workshop has a central double door flanked by a single 8/8 sash or sash-type window on either side, all featuring round-arched openings that lead to the yard. This site is a rare example of workshops linked to model dwellings created for the Peabody Trust.
