Description
The railings and gates to Islington Tennis Centre and King George's Field are located on the south side of Market Road and extend for approximately 250 metres. They were constructed in 1854, likely designed by J.B. Bunning, and are made of cast iron. The gate piers are panelled antae topped with antefixae and bracketed finials. The railings feature a coved plinth and cylindrical rails, with two square rails in the center of each bay that are also bracketed, and bud finials, with every other finial being taller and pierced. There are five gates that align with the railings, each featuring a curved brace across the panels and a circle in the resulting spandrel. Some of the piers have lost their antefixae and finials, and there are missing sections of railings.
