Description

A substantial early to mid-18th century house, now divided into two dwellings at Nos 583 and 585 High Road, Tottenham. The building is three storeys high with a basement, and has four windows to the front, accompanied by a two-storey, single-window extension forming an outer entrance. It is built of brain brick with red brick dressings, incorporating axial and angle pilasters, and a moulded cornice. A stone band runs along the first floor, and there is a parapet coping. Gauged flat brick arches with triple keystones top the sash windows, which have glazing bars. No. 583 has five stone steps leading to a six-panel door with a patterned radial fanlight, positioned within a rusticated recess and a Doric doorcase featuring fluted pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a mutuled cornice hood. There is another door within the entrance bay. No. 585 has a half-glazed double door with a replaced patterned fanlight in its entrance bay. Nos 581 to 585 (odd numbers) and their associated walls form a group.
