Description
This is an early 19th-century terrace of six houses, numbered 229 to 235, on the north side of Hackney Road. Numbers 229 and 231 are four storeys with a basement, with the top storey likely added later, while the remaining houses are three storeys high. They are each two windows wide. The houses are constructed of stock brick and feature a parapet. Numbers 229 and 231 have bands marking the first and third floors. The sash windows are topped with gauged flat brick arches. An arcaded first floor is prominent, incorporating masks on the keystones of the round arches. The ground floor features round openings set within round-arched recesses, with doors set in hollow-curved reveals. The doors themselves are four-panel designs, each with a plain fanlight above. Long warehouses project from the ground floors of numbers 233 and 235. The terrace, together with its garden walls, forms a group.
