Description

This is an 18th-century large pair of buildings with later additions, located on Kingsland Road. The main block is three storeys high and features two windows each. There are set-back, single-bay entrance wings. The building is constructed of brown brick with a stone dentil cornice and a stone-coped brick parapet. A steeply pitched, hipped tiled roof tops the structure. The sash windows on the first floor have stucco lintels, and lunettes (curved windows) are placed above. A 19th-century north extension, also three storeys high with two windows, is distinguished by a stone-coped parapet and sash windows with glazing bars under stuccoed lintels. Number 552 has a large rear extension dating to around 1900, originally a ballroom and now used as a warehouse. Number 546 incorporates the original south entrance wing and a wide, two-storey stock brick front extension. Numbers 540 to 570 (even) are grouped together.
