Description
The footings to the former Church of St Mary the Virgin likely date from 1437. The medieval church was constructed in 1666 and rebuilt on the original footings according to designs by Sir Christopher Wren, with the tower being retained and remodelled. Wren's church was destroyed during World War II, and the remains, including the medieval fabric of the tower, were later removed to Fulton University in the USA. The footings are made of rubble and dressed stone and now form part of a public garden.
