Description
Doctor Johnson's Buildings, located in Inner Temple, were built in 1858 by Sydney Smirke. The buildings are constructed of gault brick, featuring a rusticated stone ground floor and stone window surrounds, sill bands, and a cornice. They rise to four storeys and have eleven bays that are symmetrically arranged, with a central entrance and two bay terminal projections. The central doorway is framed by a rusticated stone surround, complete with a keystone and cornice. The window and door openings are segment-headed, and the doorways are fitted with gas lamps mounted on simple cast iron brackets. Above, there is a stone cornice with a brick blocking course. The elevation facing Hare Court is made of yellow stock brick, with gauged brick arches, a stone string course, and a cornice.
