Description

Nos 23 to 27 on Cornhill, built in 1929 by Maurice Webb, are designed in a free classical style and feature a stone façade. The building has five storeys and attics, with a three-bay centre flanked by additional bays on the left and right. The ground floor is channelled and includes a high central door topped with a segmental pediment supported by consoles. Flanking the door are windows with cornices on consoles, while the outer bays have plain openings. From the first to the fourth floors, the central section is adorned with fluted pilasters on vase bases, set between hollow-chamfered window architraves. The windows are plain rectangles with bronze aprons. Above, there is a plain frieze topped with an egg and dart cornice and a triangular pediment featuring a sculpted figure at the apex, with vases on either side. The prominent recessed attic showcases fluted pilasters in the centre, with paired lion consoles above that support a simple, deeply projecting cornice.
