Description
Wardrobe House and the adjoining archway, located at Wardrobe Place, date from the late 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with moulded brick detailing and painted stone dressings. It stands three storeys tall and features three bays.
On the ground floor, there is a central doorcase flanked by swagged Ionic pilasters that support consoles and a pedimented cornice. The windows from the ground to the second floor have moulded brick architraves; the windows on the ground and first floors are topped with stone cornices, while the second-floor windows have triangular sediments and apron panels made of moulded brick.
To the right, there is an arch with a semi-circular headed door that has a rubbed red brick arch and moulded jambs. This is flanked by brick pilasters with foliated stone capitals. Above, there is a plain brick frieze and cornice, topped with a balustrade featuring ball finials and a pedimented brick niche that contains a sculpted stone panel.
