Description

9 and 10 Denmark Street are two terraced houses built around 1686-89 as part of an estate development by Samuel Fortrey and Jacques Wiseman. The houses are constructed from multi-coloured stock brick with red brick dressings, and feature stucco keystones and string courses. They stand three storeys tall, with No.9 having attic dormers and No.10 featuring a 20th-century attic. Each house has three windows and parapets.

No.9 has a 20th-century shop at ground floor level. To the left, there is an early 19th-century wooden doorcase with reeded detailing, roundels at the corners, and shaped brackets that support a projecting cornice. Above the door, there is an overlight with a reeded transom and a fielded six-panel door. A stucco string course runs along the first and second floors. The windows have gauged red brick flat arches and flush sash windows with exposed boxing; the first floor has two-light sashes, while the second floor features four-light sashes. The interior includes the original staircase with a close string, square newels, and a moulded handrail, along with twisted and turned balusters that are boxed in.

No.10 has painted brickwork and a 20th-century shop at ground floor level, with a stucco string course at the second floor. The flush sash windows have 20th-century glazing and exposed boxing. The interior of No.10 has not been inspected.
