Description
The statue of Robert Stephenson, located in the forecourt of Euston Station, was created in 1870 by Baron Carlo Marochetti. It was presented to the London & North Western Railway by the Institute of Civil Engineers. The bronze statue depicts Robert Louis Stephenson in contemporary dress, holding partly unfurled plans. It stands on a red granite pedestal that features an inscription recording his dates of birth and death. Historically, the statue originally stood between the two entrance lodges in Euston Square and is one of the few remaining elements from the formal layout established in 1870, which included the now-destroyed Doric Arch, lost in 1969.
