Description

CAMDEN

TQ2685NW CHURCH ROW 798-1/26/1748 Tomb of Lady Elizabeth Norton in St John's Churchyard

GV II

Table tomb to Lady Elizabeth Norton, died 1715. A stone slab on 6 arcaded square columns, with ringed capitals and large bases. A very well preserved example of a type unusual in London churchyards, to a daughter of the Earl of Gainsborough. The inscription is still legible: 'her virtues appeared in every part of her life, her humility in her grave, which she chose in this place'. (Wade C: Buried in Hampstead: Camden History Society: 1986-).
