Description

Numbers 1-10 Cambridge Terrace is a terrace of ten houses built in 1825 by John Nash. The northern half, numbers 7-10, were rebuilt in 1986 to replicate the original appearance and maintain the symmetry of the terrace following war damage. The houses are constructed of stucco with a rusticated ground floor, and have a slated mansard roof with dormers.

The houses are four storeys high, with attics and basements, and have a window range of 26. The end bays and the original central bay slightly project; the central bay is recessed. The ground floor features square-headed openings with panelled doors and overlights, and recessed sash windows. Projecting bays feature paired Doric columns with rusticated blocks, supporting an entablature and balustrade at first floor level. Below, there are square-headed tripartite sash windows with segmental arches. Upper floors have architraved sash windows and a continuous cast-iron balcony to the first-floor windows. The projecting bays also have enriched pilaster strips through the first and second floors and at third-floor level; the first-floor windows are round-arched with a radial patterned top above a tripartite sash window. There is a main dentil cornice at third-floor level, continuing with a cornice and blocking course above. The right-hand return has a projecting bowed bay running the full height of the building. The left-hand return features four windows and a double Doric portico. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings are present around the areas. Numbers 7-10 were specifically listed on 8th February 1988.
